Richard P. (Dick) Fox was born on March 6, 1936, to Ferdinand and Margaret (Breyer) Fox in Hastings, MN. He grew up and attended school in Hastings, MN., where he was involved in sports and focused on basketball. He enlisted in the US Air Force on January 4, 1956. He attended River Falls Community College, University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, University of Minnesota and University of Maryland. He married Gladys Estelle Holmes on June 23, 1956, in Hastings, MN., and had four children, Paul, Gretchen, Karen and Tony. Dick began working for Smead Manufacturing in October 1965 and moved his family to McGregor, TX to become General Manager of Manufacturing and Operations in August 1970.
Dick was involved in many community groups to include Rotary Club and St. Eugene Catholic Church finance council, taught Sunday school and was a lector and Eucharistic minister, and sang in the choir. He served on McGregor School Board, McGregor City Council and served as Mayor of McGregor. He served on the Rocket Federal Credit Union supervisory and board of directions for many years as well as the Board of Directors of Smead Manufacturing after his retirement in 1999. He was very active in HOTCOG, McGregor Economic Development, American Cancer Society – Relay for Life and American Heart Association. He was presented with the McGregor Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. Dick was an avid golfer and was proud of the many prestigious courses he was fortunate to play.
He and wife Gladys were blessed with 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and were married for over 66 years before her passing in January 2023. The were honored by the Vatican and Pope Frances after 65 years of marriage.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings and wife Gladys Fox. He is survived by his children, Paul and Lila of McGregor, Gretchen and Randy Krupicka of Oglesby, Karen and Troy Tucker of McGregor and Tony and Vicki of McGregor, TX., 12 grand-children and 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor on Friday, April 28th from 6-8pm and a memorial mass service with military honors at St. Eugene Catholic Church in McGregor on Saturday, April 29th at 10:00am.
The family has requested that any memorial contribution be made to St. Eugene Catholic Church in McGregor. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Anthony Care Center and Bluebonnet Health Services for the amazing care they provided.
