Margaret “Luke” Bartels of McGregor died Monday afternoon, May 24, 2010, at the age of 91. Graveside services and interment will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 27, 2010, at McGregor Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor, with Rev. David Thompson officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Cole Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bartels was born February 8, 1919,in Bonham, Texas, the daughter of the late James Beason and Ellen (Riley) Guinn. In 1921, she moved to McGregor where she attended school. Much of her life was spent in the restaurant business as a waitress. She was employed by Vick’s Café, The Oasis and Westview Manor Nursing Home in McGregor. After devoting over forty years to the restaurant business, she retired from the Holiday Inn in Waco in 1965. On December 23, 1936, she married Albert Henry Bartels in McGregor. After forty-five years of marriage, he preceded her in death March 4, 1981.
Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Judy Mangum.
Survivors include a son Bob Bartels and wife Glenda of McGregor; two daughters, Virginia Blansit and husband Billie of McGregor, Patsy Rappe of Bellmead; a brother, Bud Guinn and wife Gail of McGregor; two sisters, Eula Adcock of McGregor, Nadine Scott of Mabank; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandsons.
Active casketbearers will be Clayton Alsip, David Bartels, Brian Love, Curtis Love, Dustin Martinez and Wade Pope.
