Frank A. Campos, 91, of Moody passed away peacefully July 22, 2010, after a long battle with cancer in the comfort of Mike and Fran’s home. He was surrounded by his immediate family, including the dedicated team from Scott and White Hospice. Graveside services and interment will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 26, 2010, at Bellwood Memorial Park under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Chaplain Judy Hoelscher officiating. Viewing will commence at 10:00 A.M. Sunday until 8:00 P.M. at Cole Funereal Home.
Frank was born December 21, 1918, the son of the late Francisco and Basilia (Arredondo) Campos, Sr. in Marlin, Texas. The family later moved to McGregor, Texas where he met the love of his life, Juanita Palomo and later married January 29, 1940, in Belton, Texas. After seventy years of marriage, she preceded him in death May 24, 2010. Frank and Juanita later moved to Moody where they built their home and have resided ever since.
In 1940, Frank began his career with the Santa Fe Railroad. On November 3, 1944, he was drafted by the United States Army. He served in World War II at the Battle of the Philippines in Luzon. As an infantry rifleman, Frank earned the Combat Infantryman Badge and was decorated with the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Frank was honorably discharged at Camp Fannin, Texas January 17, 1946. After his discharge, Frank returned to work for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1980 after devoting forty years of service.
Frank’s strength and grace was the cornerstone of his success in his career and in life. He was a compassionate husband, father, confidant and conscience to his family. After retiring, Frank’s passion was to care for his cattle and goats. Frank enjoyed spending all his time at the farm with Juanita at his side. Farming became a fervor that was hard to let go of. His ultimate goal was to see a beautiful red barn at the corner of Elm Creek and FM 107. By late June 2010, his son Eswell accomplished the renovation and drove him by the farm. Frank said “that is beautiful”. That was the last time Frank would see his farm.
Frank was a stature in the town of Moody, Texas where he never met a stranger. He was everyone’s friend and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great great grand-father. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Bea Carter.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Fran Rodriquez and husband Mike of Moody; a son, Eswell Campos and wife Gayle of Moody; seven grandchildren, Jenifer Phillips, Crystal Marie Hennig, Michael Frank Rodriquez, Misty Dawn DeShazo and Julianne, Shawnrey, Shane Campos; eleven great grand-children, Brandon Campos, Austin Young, Jet DeShazo, Sheba, T.J.
