Ruth Butler

Our mother, Ruth L. Butler, age 99, passed away on June 16, 2020. She was born Ruth Langley on April 19, 1921 in Atlanta, GA. Her father named her from the Bible. She had an older brother, two younger sisters, and a younger brother. During her young years she helped with her younger sisters, as both her parents had to work. She loved to talk about their time growing up in a large family. As a family they attended church services regularly. She learned to play the piano and love playing gospel songs. She loved to sing as she played. Ruth was the pianist at her church in College Park until we moved to Forest Park. She was always in her church wherever she was. Her and Dad loved working with the senior citizens at the church, even though they themselves were as senior as them. She was a big planner and always had activities to keep them entertained.

She worked at the printing company, Foote and Davies, later known as McCall's Publishing until she retired. She loved going to local lakes fishing and vacationing at the beaches in Florida. She liked to tell stories about herself and her family. She never threw away a photograph, even if she had several copies, or if it wasn't in focus. She usually had a story about it if you would listen.

Mrs. Butler was predeceased by her husband; William Butler; parents: William & Plumer Langley; brothers: Harry & Douglas Langley; beloved grandson: Charles Ziegler. She is survived by her children: George (Mary) Butler, Brenda (James) Bryant, and James (June) Butler; four granddaughters and one grandson; six great granddaughters and two great grandsons; two great great grandsons; sisters: Ilettie Gibbons and Grace Sheffield; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Haisten Funeral Home on Monday, June 22, 2020 from 5:00PM - 7:00PM and on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 from 10:00AM -11:00AM. A private family funeral service will follow. Burial will be at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. Ruth left behind a large family and she will be missed dearly. She had a long and good life. She wanted to live until she was 100, she almost made it. We love you mom.
