Jerry Lee Smith, age 68, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020. Jerry was born February 22, 1951 to the late Jesse and Helena Smith. Jerry was a graduate of Henry County High School and was retired from Lucent Technologies. He was a sports enthusiast, an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling. Jerry loved the Braves, the Falcons, Georgia Tech, and the Henry County Warhawks. Jerry was passionate about his community and was a devoted coach. For decades, he helped countless young lives in many sports while volunteering his time through the McDonough Youth Association and at Henry County High School coaching softball and baseball. Jerry was a true servant to helping young men and women develop to becoming the best players they could be. Upon retirement, Jerry’s greatest joy was spending time at his cottage on the Indian River and listening to music at his beloved Earl’s Hideway in Sebastian, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard and David Smith. Jerry is survived by his sister-in law, Retha Smith; his nieces and nephews, Joye (Greg) Moore, Candy (Jason) Reagan, Holli Smith, and Jesse Smith: and great- nieces and nephews, Sarah Moore, Hannah Reagan, and Pete Moore; and countless coaches, players, and friends who he also called family.
