Thomas Tien Sun Kaung, 江 天 笙 , age 81, passed away from cancer on June 16, 2019 surrounded by family. Devoted husband of 54 years to Hue-lee (Cheng); loving father of Richard Kaung (Annie), and Marie Blossom (David); doting grandfather of Grace, Maxwell, Thomas and Katherine; dear brother of Tian Ling, Tian Zhen, Tian Lai, and the late Tian Yun; beloved cousin and uncle.
Born in Shanghai, China, he came to the US for college where he graduated from Southwestern University and received his graduate engineering degree from University of Iowa. He had a long and distinguished career as a financial executive in retail.
After retirement, he donated his time and efforts to the Ridgecliff Foundation, and the Cleveland Chinese Senior Citizen Association. He served as president for many years of the Ridgecliff Foundation whose mission was to provide grants to mental health or chemical dependency non-profit organizations.
Throughout his life, he firmly believed in giving back to society and to helping people in any way he could. With the help of his grandfather, who was the Methodist Bishop of Shanghai, China, he received a full scholarship at Southwestern University. He has thus created an enduring scholarship fund through Southwestern University to aid other foreign students, like he once was. He was passionate about his family and friends. His generosity, support and wisdom were felt by all those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
Funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church 6850 Mayfield Road, Gates Mills, OH. 44040 on Monday, June 24th at 11:30am, and the family will receive friends and celebrate his life at Landerhaven 6111 Landerhaven Drive, Mayfield Heights, OH. 44124 on June 24th from 4-7pm. Interment will be private with family at Lakeview Cemetery.
