Bill was born April 11, 1928 in Lansing, MI to Rachael and Norman Olsen and passed away April 24, 2017 at the age of 89. After graduating from Sexton High School in January of 1946, he served in the U.S. Army in Virginia and Petaluma, CA. After his service he became employed by the State of Michigan, primarily in the Insurance Department where he served as Deputy Commissioner. In 1980, after 29-years with the State, he became the first President of the Physicians Insurance Company of Michigan; now a part of ProAssurance, retiring after ten years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved northern Michigan where he spent as much time as he could. Like so many of us in the greater Lansing area, he loved the Michigan State Spartans, the Tigers, Lions and Red Wings. Most important to him was his family who will miss him very much.
He is survived by his wife of 67-years Doris; one daughter Carol (Dirk) Dockter of Wolverine, MI; two sons, Jim of East Lansing and Jeff (Miriam) of Lansing; five grandchildren; Christy (Chris) Taylor of Dansville, Casey of Phoenix, AZ, Renee’ of Spring Arbor, Autumn (Shaun) Wernette, Ashley (Ben) Robert, and Six great grandchildren, Matthew, Gracie, Lennon, Jonah, Kaden and Kaylee; one sister, Evelyn (Roys) of Trenton, MI, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Frederick Tripp and Ivan Tripp.
A memorial visitation will be held at Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes in Mason, Thursday, April 27. from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 28, at the Mason Community Church, 1000 E. Columbia with Military Honors to follow.
