Roger Ray Shepard Sr. was born on June 8, 1933 Lansing, MI the son of the late Emerson and Lucille (Rom) Shepard, and passed away October 25, 2019 at the age of 86. Roger proudly served his country in the Army in the Korean War from 1953 to 1955, leaving the service as a Corporal. He is a life member of the VFW Post 7309 and American Legion Post 238 for over 60 years (past Commander of both). Roger was a very hard worker, always holding a job for his family to provide what was needed. Roger worked for Brown Brothers hauling sand, gravel, asphalt, and steel beams. He also worked for Leaseway Transportation, hauling cars all over the U.S. He then retired from Leaseway on disability. One of his greatest joys was spending time with family and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; step father, Austin Frye; son, Roger R. Shepard Jr.; grandson, Steve McEvers; son-in-law, Greg J. Jenks Sr;. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Marlene K. Shepard; daughters, Becky McCord (Isis Joy Buckwheat); Kathy Cifaldi and Marly Jo Jenks; 23 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brothers, Larry Shepard, Tom (Connie) Shepard; and sister, Sharron Workman; many nephews, nieces, great friends and extended family.
Funeral Services will be held 12 p.m. on Friday November 8, 2019 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, Mason, MI with Pastor Bob Carpenter officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home. A luncheon will be held at the VFW #7309.
