DANSVILLE, MI
Bob Riggs, age 81, died on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, in the home he so loved with his beloved dog, Gracie by his side. He was born a twin in Lansing MI on April 1, 1934. He graduated from East Lansing High School in 1953 and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from MSU in 1957, after which he served in the US Army. His whole career was in a family business started by his father – Michigan Hybrid Seed Co. – from which he retired in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond H. and Hilda Mary (Hameline) Riggs; brothers, Richard T and David E. Riggs. Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret (Peggy) A. Riggs; son, Steph Riggs; daughter, Laura E. (Joe) Ahler; grandchildren, Connor, Alex and Erik Newcomb, Brittany Riggs, Krystyn Messersmith and Scott Bunde, several nieces and nephews.
Along with his family and friends, Bob had other loves – he was an avid MSU fan, never missing a televised football or basketball game from his blue chair. He looked forward to his weekly golf league, as well as tee time with other close friends. Until recently, it was a certainty that he would be at the hunting cabin every November with the Rack and Fin Club. He loved fishing at the family cottage, hoping to ensure that his name was on the calendar having caught the largest or most fish. And lastly, nothing pleased him more than being in his garden and sharing his produce with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Ash Street, Mason MI. The family will receive friends at 1:00 P.M. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mason United Methodist Church Path to Promise, 201 E. Ash Street, Mason, Michigan or to a charity of one's choice.
