Mary Koons, 60, passed away January 28, 2013 with her family by her side at her home in Mason, MI. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church in Mason. She was born December 29, 1952 in Saginaw, MI to Jerome and Mary Konieczka. Mary graduated from St. Stevens High School in 1971. She attended college at Michigan State University, where she achieved a degree in criminal justice. Upon graduating she married Douglas Koons. After raising her family she worked for 25 years at MSU retiring from the Department of Radiology. She was an active member of St. James Church where she taught Sunday Bible School for many years. Her interests included family, snowshoeing, sewing, and craft projects. She loved working in her flower gardens and after retirement achieved her Master Gardeners Certificate. She was very active in the community and volunteered her time with the Sycamore Creek Garden Club of Mason. Mary is survived by her mother, Mary; husband, Douglas; two sisters, Michele (Rob) and Janet (Mark); two sons, Douglas (Heather) and Daniel; and three grandchildren, Ella, Eric, and Evelyn.
