Mason
Leo C. Fountain, born November 16, 1922, in Mason, MI; passed away at his loving daughter and son-in-law’s home November 25, 2011, at the age of 89. Mr. Fountain was a former farmer and Tool and Die worker with General Motors until his retirement in 1986. Leo enjoyed reading Civil War History and traveled to many Civil War sites in his earlier days. He and his wife June enjoyed winters in Lehigh Acres, Fl and spent summers at their cabin on a lake in Kalkaska, MI. Due to declining health in the last 10 years, they moved down the road from his daughter, Cindy, in Webberville, MI. Leo was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, June (Slusser) Fountain. Surviving are his daughter, Cindy (Eugene) Smith of Webberville; son, William A (Misti) Fountain of Germfask, MI; step-daughter, Annetta Sylvester of Tarpon Springs, FL; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 S. Jefferson, Mason, MI, with the Rev. Steve Malson of Mason Community Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Battle of Franklin Trust, 1345 Carnton Lane, Franklin, TN 37064, with memo notation “in memory of Leo Fountain”. The Trust is a non-profit museum for the Civil War. They are working to preserve and maintain the properties and artifacts and documents related to the history of the Battle of Franklin. This was one of Leo’s favorite places to visit.
