Shirley Jean Gouin, of Marysville Washington, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on September 21, 2023 at the age of 95. Shirley Meyer was born on March 16, 1928 in Bangor, Michigan to Henry Meyer and Theresa Schemenauer. She graduated from Bangor High School and moved to Kalamazoo, where she attended beauty college and Western Michigan University. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Richard Louis Gouin, on October 5, 1949, and together celebrated over 50 years of marriage. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, camping, sports, and playing cards. Shirley's greatest joy was her family and friends. Forever remembered by Richard (Diane) Gouin, Lawrence (Kathy) Gouin, Debra Bowler, Peggy (Jeff) Coffel, Laura (Richard) Kruze, 8 grandchildren, 19 surviving great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandson. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her son Donald, her grandson James, and great granddaughter Abby.
Shirley was devoted to her faith and the Catholic church she attended regularly. She was a longtime member of Saint Mary's Church in Marysville. She demonstrated her faith in God by her actions. She served as a Marion Mother, a member of St. Vincent DePaul, taught catechism classes, did outreach ministry, and served on various committees.
Shirley made many dear friends over her lifetime. In her later years, she and her friends enjoyed playing cards, enjoying live music, bowling in a senior league, and watching her Seahawks and Mariners.
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed.
A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 4200 88th Ave Ne, Marysville, WA 98270.
