M. Sgt. Robert William Oberg Ret. was born to Gothe Vilger Oberg and Ragnhild Elizabeth Solberg on April 14, 1934 in Arlington, Washington. He passed away July 28, 2013 at Providence Hospital Colby Campus, Everett Washington.
Bob played varsity basketball in Stanwood and graduated from Stanwood High School in 1952. He entered US Marine Corps and was in from 1954-1984 including 2 tours in Vietnam, and many in Japan, Spain, Italy, and Germany. Occupations during service included communications chief recruiter, and inspector/ instructor.
He leaves behind his wife of 36 years Alberta(Deanie); brother Michael (Fayth) of Olympia WA, 4 children RaeAnn (Jim) Nelson of Vancouver WA, Jim (Connie) Unger of Camano Island, Tracy Wheeler of Lake Stevens, Mike (Althea) Unger of Bellingham; 9 grandchildren and 7 great children, 2 nieces of Olympia and many friends too numerous to mention. He attended Marysville 1st Assembly of God in Marysville for 24 years. He is with his Jesus now!!!!!!
A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home. Inurnment at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Wounded Warriors Fund in Master Sgt. Oberg’s name, P.O. Box 33099
