She began school a year early, as Norwegian was the language spoken at home, so the retiring kindergarten teacher , who spoke Norwegian, was tasked with teaching this shy little girl English. Olga went on to graduate from Marysville High School, and Everett Business College and attended Seattle Pacific College. She was working at Williams Dime Store in Marysville when she met, and fell in love with a handsome young man (Kenneth) who had just returned from military service as a US Marine. They were married on July 11, 1947 and spent 70 1/2 years together, until his death in 2017. Soon after marrying, Kenneth graduated from Northwest Bible Institute (now Northwest University), Kirkland, Washington, and they headed to Alaska to serve as missionaries. They also served as pastors and evangelists throughout the Northwest, and in later life, were Chaplains at several senior apartment complexes.
Olga learned to play the piano, organ and accordion, and played for many weddings and funerals, as well as church services. She loved teaching the girls Junior Sunday School classes, and often had parties for them. Olga was also an executive secretary, a position she loved. She worked at All Fir Lumber and C.E. Cruikshank Lumber in Everett prior to working at the Nord Door Company. She retired after 27 years at the Nord Door Company as Executive Secretary, and personal secretary to the Nord family.
Olga was very proud of two things - that she still had her driver's license, and that she had always had a Marysville address. She was a member of the Marysville Historical Society, and until her health interfered, never missed a Strawberry Festival parade. She was very excited to be honored at the Strawberry Festival Luncheon in 2015.
Olga was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Kenneth Taylor, her parents, Olaf and Josephine (Josie) Olson, brothers Alvin and Palmer Olson. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Trayler (Alfred), 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, and many friends and relatives.
