Freda Devean Williams left us to meet her maker the Great Spirit on May 5, 2012. She was born on November 22, 1929 on Whidbey Island, WA. She was raised in Tulalip, WA where she met and married Charles Williams Sr. They had three children, Freda Cavanaugh, Charles Williams Jr. (deceased) and Charlene Sicade.
Freda was the greatest mother, aunty, grandma, great grandma and also great-great-grandma. Freda was full of love and shared that love to all that come into contact with her. She was full of joy and laughter. She loved all of her family so much and truly knew the meaning behind family.
She was a "Jack of all trades". In her younger years she would shake-board. In the summer you could find her clam digging, fishing, hanging nets, smelting; her husband and she would go hunting and wood cutting. Doing farm labor, which included picking: pumpkins, cucumber, corn potatoes, carrots, rhubarb out of the fields; also traveling to Yakima for the apples. In the winter you would see her tying berry brushes and doing Christmas trees. She was one of the first employees to work in the kitchen of the Tulalip Bingo. Later she became one of the main cooks for the Tulalip Tribes.
An inner faith service will be held on Wednesday, May 9th at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Tribal Center. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 10th starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Tulalip Tribal Center.
