Coy was born on November 19, 1930, in Myton, Utah, to Shelby Jones and Mabel Merrill. Raised by his father, the town's blacksmith, after his mother passed away when he was just two years old, Coy spent his formative years in Myton. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the military, marking the beginning of a dedicated 20-year service to his country. Coy retired from the U.S. Navy and the CB reserves.
In 1955, Coy met his beloved Marna, and they were married just two weeks later, embarking on a beautiful journey together that spanned 69 years. After learning the trade of drywall from his father-in-law, Coy moved his family to Washington State in 1967, where he founded Coy’s Drywall Company. Over the next 15 years, he not only ran his business but also built and sold many houses, achieving the remarkable milestone of retiring at the age of 55.
Retirement afforded Coy ample time to enjoy the simple pleasures that brought him joy. He cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren, who filled his heart with happiness. A lover of horses, Coy was an active member and leader of the Skagit County Posse and continued to excel in barrel racing, winning multiple buckles well into his 80s. Even after his horse-riding days were over, he stayed busy with various projects around the house, reading, and taking long walks down his country road. Coy also enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Plain, Washington, where he loved snowmobiling, river rafting, and being with family.
Coy is survived by his devoted wife, Marna; their daughter, Debi (Don) Kenyon; and son, Doug Jones. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Amanda (Charles) Descalzi, Kenzie Wilson, Austin (Kalina) Wilson, Sequoia Wilson, Tiffanie Monroe, and Alyssa Jones; and eight great-grandchildren: Ayden, Amelia, Addison, Brooke, Maverick, Jackson, Ezra, and Atlas. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jean (Richard) Jones; son, Edward Jones; and grandson, Ryan (Ada) Evans; as well as his three sisters, Arloia, Dorothy, and Elnoia.
Coy left this earth peacefully, knowing that his beloved wife, Marna, would be cared for and loved by his family. While our hearts mourn the loss of an extraordinary husband, father, and grandfather, we find comfort in knowing he is at peace in his eternal resting place with our Heavenly Father. In his final moments, Coy expressed immense pride and gratitude for the family he helped build, the enduring love of his extended family in Utah, and the lifelong friendships he cherished.
Coy’s final wish was for a private burial alongside his beloved daughter, Jean, son, Edward, and grandson, Ryan. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, July 14th, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory.
