2011. She was born in Ridgeway, Virginia on April 12, 1923 to the late Mr. and Mrs.
John Edward Pace, Sr. and was married to the late Alexander Fenton “Scottie” McGee
who also preceded her in death along with a daughter, Susan Elizabeth, five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by a son, Dr. John Patrick McGee and his wife Sally and grandchildren Kerry Pace, Lauren Marsh and Benjamin Alexander McGee of Poquoson, Virginia, her brother, Dr. E. Mark Pace of Millboro, Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Ridgeway High School and Radford University and did graduate
work at Virginia Tech, University of Virginia and the University of North Carolina at
Greensboro.
She taught school in Martinsville City Schools, Henry County School System and was a
curriculum principal on the elementary school level before serving many years as
librarian at Drewry Mason High School.
Mrs. McGee was active on boards for many years with Blue Ridge Regional Library
Association, Morehead Memorial Hospital Board, Patrick Henry Community College
Foundation, the William Pannill Education Foundation, the Fieldcrest Cannon Education
Foundation and the Ridgeway United Methodist Church where she was a lifetime
member. She was also a member of the General Joseph Martin Chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolution, the Book Exchange Club, Piedmont Arts
Association, Virginia Museum of Natural History and the Bassett Historical Center
(Building) and the Henry County Heritage Book Committees.
Mrs. McGee authored and co-authored several books that were published. She was
named the outstanding alumna of Radford University in 1993 and was awarded the
Book of Golden Deeds Award along with her cousin Ruth Pace by the Martinsville
Exchange Club in 1994. She was also named as the recipient of the Jack Dalton
Community Service Award in 2004.
The funeral will be held at Ridgeway United Methodist Church at 11A.M on Tuesday, August 2, 2011with the Rev. Beth McLemore presiding. A private burial will follow at the Pace Family Cemetery in Ridgeway.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Martinsville Chapel of Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home.
