James William “Jim” Wagoner, Jr., 83, formerly of Ridgeway, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Landmark Center in Stuart where he was a resident. He was born in Martinsville, March 28, 1930 to James William Wagoner, Sr. and Elizabeth Minter Wagoner. He attended the University of Richmond and retired from DuPont after 40 years of service where he was a supervisor. Jim was a member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church where he had served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He had also served as chairman of the Henry County Board of Supervisors and was a member of SCORE, Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Ridgeway Ruritan Club. He had served on the County Assessment Board, Henry County Planning Committee and the Electoral Board.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Wagoner; a sister, Libby Frith and a brother, Dr. Earl Wagoner.
Jim is survived by his wife, Patsy Linthicum Wagoner of the Landmark Center in Stuart; one daughter, Bonnie Stone and husband, David of Maryland; two sons, Kent Wagoner of Ridgeway and Jeff Wagoner of Sophia, NC; one sister, Ann Plaster of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Gina, Alan, Sara, Sean, Ashley, Hannah and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Starling Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. David Adkins and Jason Cline of Stuart Hospice officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
