Born on April 9, 1942, to Garnett Pruitt and Oretha Harris Pruitt, Elizabeth lived a rich and fulfilling life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Dempsy Martin, brother, Curtis Pruitt, and sister, Tilley Wingo.
A devout Baptist, Elizabeth was a faithful member of New Life Chapel. Her spirit of adventure led her to travel the world, with her most cherished journey being a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
Before her retirement, Elizabeth worked diligently at DuPont. In her leisure time, she found joy in tending to her garden and solving puzzles. She was also a passionate fan of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team. Elizabeth will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her legacy of faith, love, and adventure will continue to inspire those around her.
Left to cherish her memory are her nephews and nieces, Dean Pruitt and wife, Sharon; Allen Pruitt; Paula Hankins and husband, Kevin; Shelly Wilbourne and husband, Forest; seven great nieces and nephews; and 14 great-great nieces and nephews, as well as her sister-in-laws, Brenda Pruitt and Carrie Wright.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Collin-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, located at 109 Broad Street in Martinsville, VA, on Saturday, December 14, 2024. A visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed immediately by the funeral service. Pastor Rob Haley will officiate. Interment will be in Harris Stegall Pruitt Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
