Born on August 3, 1938, in Keyser, WV, Luther was the youngest of 11 children born to the late Edward and Sarah George. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967, with part of his service taking place in Germany. He was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent much of his life providing for his family. He worked as a warehouse worker at Martinsburg Veneer Plant for 11 years and later spent 25 years with Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent.
Luther was a member of New Hope Church and found great joy in the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed working on his vehicles and spending quality time with his loved ones. His family was the center of his world, and his devotion to them was evident in everything he did.
Luther is survived by his loving wife, Genevieve George, and their two daughters: Sandra Wood (Thomas) of Strasburg, VA, and Barbara Reisberg (Richard) of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher Wood (Tonya), Amy Fincham (Andrew), Sarah Moats, Jessica Hartwick, and Elijah Reisberg, his great-grandchildren, Jakob Wood, Landon Showe, and Jaxon Moats, as well as various nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine Hartwick and grandson-in-law Keith Moats.
Luther’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all those who knew him. His legacy of love, hard work, and devotion will be cherished forever.
A viewing will be held on December 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Rosedale Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will take place immediately following the service at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Martinsburg Health Care Center at 209 Clover St, Martinsburg, WV 25404, in memory of Luther.
