He was the son of the late Andrew Sr. and Elizabeth Young. He was a 1955 graduate of Clark County High School where he was a member of the Glee Club and the football team. Andrew was one of the last three surviving members of his class.
Andrew was baptized at St Luke Baptist Church in Berryville, VA and he attended Wainwright Baptist Church in Charles Town, WV faithfully. He was a United States Navy Veteran (worked in aviation).
At an early age he worked at the race track; was later employed by General Motors. While there he was active in the U.A.W. union. Andrew was kind-hearted and cared for others. He drove the bus for the Jefferson County Boys and Girls Club.
He loved attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events where he would often assist as an umpire. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Raiders football and the Lakers basketball. He also enjoyed bowling in a league, singing, and baking.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia Young; brother Keith Young (Kyungmi) of Heath, Texas; cousin Donna Hill of Lancaster, California; bonus children: Vernon Robinson of Charles Town; Steven Robinson of Martinsburg; Debra Davila (Juan) of Chesapeake, Virginia; and Connie Papion of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; three nephews; one niece and many friends and past coworkers.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Bessie Young, and half-brother Nathaniel Johnson.
Andrew will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, Kearneysville, WV.
Family and friends will be received at Rosedale Funeral Home, 917 Cemetery Road, Martinsburg, WV on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
