Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William Frank Barton Sr. and Thelma Rickerson Barton and his brothers Robert Michael (Darlene) and Benjamin Barton.
Bill is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kay Dukes Barton; his son William Barton III (Michelle), his daughter Leslie Stephenson (Jeff Forbes); his brother George Edward Barton (Thelma); his sister Bette Gregory (Earl); his grandchildren Mark Barton (Kristy),Alex Barton, Thomas Stephenson (Brooke), Blake Stephenson, Lilli Stephenson, Carson Stephenson, Lauren Cobzaru (Vlad) and Tyce Dukes; his great grandchildren Timothy Barton, Luke Barton, and Ellie Stephenson; and his stepchildren Debbie Dukes, Ashley Dukes (Amber), and Karen McWhorter (David).
While growing up in his parents' home as a young boy and teenager, he worked at his father's laundry and dry cleaning business with his brothers. Bill graduated in 1958 from the Academy of Richmond County, where he played the trumpet in ROTC. He proudly attended the University of Georgia, graduating from the School of Pharmacy in 1965, and of course, was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.
Bill enjoyed a long career as a Pharmacist, beginning at the Monte Sano Pharmacy, on to Revco, and finally retiring from Publix. A lifetime offering help to people with their medication, and any other thing that burdened their hearts.
Bill demonstrated and lived out his love for God as a member of Christ Redeemer Lutheran Church in Augusta, Georgia and previously served as a Deacon at Warren Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia for 15 years.
His amazing carpentry skill enabled him to design and produce a number of works for family and friends, to include his own, humble casket, which you see here cradling him today.
Bill was a World War II enthusiast to the point of dedicating an entire room in his home not only to the historical event, but in honor of those who sacrificed their lives for our country. It meant that much to him.
His obvious selfless life overflowed to his children and grandchildren, providing them with all the love he could share and was ever present in their lives. He put those he loved first and will be carried to his rest by the heavy hearts of his six grandsons. Bill was proud of his children and all of his grandchildren, and he would be so touched today by their presence.
A visitation will be held at Elliott Sons Funeral Home 4255 Columbia Road Martinez, GA on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm with Pastor Debbie Dukes officiating.
Bill will be laid to rest at Westover Cemetery following the service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Gloria, Pam and the caring staff of Camellia Walk of Evans and Enhabit Hospice for their kindness and sympathetic care.
