Clarks Hill, SC--It is with profound sadness that the family of Colonel (RET.) William George Andrews Jr. announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at the age of 90 years old. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 PM on Friday, April 30, 2021, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Matthew Barfield, Chandler Kosh, Chad Robertson, Parker Stampley, Tyler Stampley, and Kameron Stampley. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Clarks Hill Fire Department. Colonel Andrews was a native of Mt. Vernon, NY, and was the son of the late William and Victoria Sophie Andrews. He was a former Commander of the 32nd Signal Battalion in Germany. Colonel Andrews was assigned to the Joint-Chief of Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Among his honors, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, and the Legion of Merit Award. Following his retirement from the military, he was an educator at Georgia Military College, Brenau University and Paine College. Colonel Andrews was a well-rounded, educated, and articulate man. He was an avid fan of Wonder Woman, John Wayne, and the LA Dodgers. A truly multifaceted individual whose fantastic sense of humor, love for family and friends, and tough spirit, serve as testimony to his life.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Joseph William (Diane) Andrews, Jeffrey William (Tonya) Andrews; daughters and sons-in-law Elizabeth Ann (Troy) Barfield, Kathleen Andrews Paschall, Shannon (Greg) Shaffer; several loving brothers and sisters and their spouses, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Victoria Helen Andrews, grandson, Cayden Shaffer, son-in-law, Ronald Paschall, sister, Elizabeth Gavin and his brother, Phillip Andrews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of Alliance Hospice and Ryan Barfield.
A visitation service will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday evening, April 29, 2021, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home Chapel, Columbia Road, Martinez, GA. The family will receive friends at the Shaffer residence in North Augusta. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of McCormick County.
