Joshua Matthew (Matt) Stewart of Evans, entered into rest November 19, 2021. The son of Jack Derrick Stewart Sr. and Beulah Blackstone, he was born July 11, 1984 in Augusta, Georgia. Matt graduated from Lakeside High School in 2003 and was a lifelong resident of Evans, Georgia.
Matt was a big guy with an even bigger heart. He loved to greet everyone with a big smile and a hug whenever you walked in the door. Matt loved the Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves, and everything sports. Each Sunday, he looked forward to attending church with his Grandma and Aunt Sandra. Tuesday nights were movie nights and most days you would find him playing cards with all the ladies with his Grandma. However, he loved his family the most and he was happiest when he was surrounded by his extended family. Matt’s greatest joy was being the caregiver for his Grandma and Pappy.
Matt is proceeded in death by his mother, Beulah Blackstone, his maternal grandfather, Albert “Pappy” Blackstone, his paternal grandfather, Jack Stewart, paternal grandmother Marilee Stewart, and his two aunts, Phyllis Rabun and Janet Blackstone.
Matt is survived by his grandmother, Jeanette Blackstone, his father Ricky Stewart, his sister Jennifer Detchemendy, his brother, Derrick Stewart (Abby), his niece, Brittney Edmunds, and his nephews Jacob and Jackson Stewart. Matt also leaves behind his aunts, Sandra (Rick) Crews, Cathy (Cathy) Stewart, and Cindy (Gregg) Steed and uncles, Albert Blackstone, Jr., Steve Rabun, and Chuck Pittman and a host of other family and friends.
The family welcomes friends for a visitation at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Columbia Rd., to be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 6-8 pm. The funeral will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2021 in the Elliott Sons Chapel beginning at 11 am. The family will then process to Hillcrest Memorial Park on Dean’s Bridge Rd immediately following the service for a graveside burial.
