Evans, GA- Jack C. Terry completed his earthly journey of 80 years on August 7, 2012. Born and raised in and around Tifton, Georgia, Jack left the farming life behind at age 18 to serve 4 years in the United States Air Force, followed by another 8 years in the Reserves, receiving Honorable Discharge in 1962. Upon completion of active military service, he came to the Augusta, Georgia area and spent 18 years in the employ of the DuPont Company at Savannah River Site. He took early retirement from that job and subsequently started and operated a successful business for many years. He then served as Senior Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer for Columbia County, GA for 6 years until poor health forced his retirement in 1991. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Throughout his life, Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening. Many are the friends, neighbors, and coworkers who were gifted with fresh vegetables from the garden each year. He was known for his generosity and willingness to help those less fortunate. He mentored many through his service as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster in the Boy Scout organization. As an employer, he was also a mentor and several employees were able to start their own businesses using the skills he taught them. The spirit of giving remained with him throughout his life and beyond- his final act of giving was to donate his body to MCG for research and study, in hopes that something learned from his many health complications might help someone else in their struggles.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen L. (Favreau) Terry; sons, Rodney Terry of Augusta and Brent Terry of Martinez; Grandson, Jackson Terry of Martinez; three brothers-in-law, all of Brunswick, Maine, Paul Favreau and wife, Rose, Leo Favreau and wife, Carol, and Peter Favreau; sister-in-law, Dorothy Robinson of Brunswick, Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2012 in the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA 30907.
The family would like to especially acknowledge and thank the staff of Trinity Hospice for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Hospice of Augusta, 2803 Wrightsboro Road # 38, Augusta, GA 30909.
