Mrs. Brenda Johnson Bowman, age 79, beloved wife of 58 years to Mr. Larry Bowman from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, went home to be with her beloved Lord on Monday, March 4th, 2024. She was born in Camp (Fort) Gordon, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Clarence L., Jr., and Dorothy H. Johnson, and granddaughter of the late Eva Fulcher and Clarence L. Johnson and Inez Oswald and Abner C. Hamrick, and sister to Linda Gail Accerbi and the late Clarence L. (BO) Johnson, III.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 8th, at 3 o’clock p.m., at Blythe Baptist Church, with the Reverend Ronnie Faircloth presiding. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Gary (Trey) Morris, Cameron Logan, Josh Gradous, Tyler Nickol, Clarence (Little Bo) Johnson, IV, and Robert (Skip) Brown.
She graduated from Hephzibah High School as Valedictorian in 1962, and some of her accomplishments while in high school were: played varsity basketball for 4 years, nominated FFA Sweetheart for Hephzibah High School and also Basketball Queen for the CSRA, crowned Yearbook Queen and Homecoming Queen in 1962 and 1961 respectively. She retired from the Richmond County Board of Education as Lead Clerk of the Department of Purchasing and Inventory Control in May, 2002 after approximately 20 years of service to the Richmond County Board of Education.
The best decision of her life was made in 1953, when at age 9, she was baptized and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She and her husband, Larry, served as volunteer youth directors for 12 years at Blythe Baptist Church. Brenda taught Sunday School for approximately 25 years. She served as organist for Blythe Baptist Church, Hephzibah Baptist Church, and interim organist at Pine Hill Baptist Church for a total of approximately 35 years. She touched many lives with her kind and generous spirit. She cherished time with family, friends, and her five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Her everlasting prayer is that her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and their spouses will learn to love her Lord Jesus Christ as much as she loved Him. He made the difference in her life and she wants them to experience the same Eternal Love.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Larry Earl Bowman, her son, Larry Kenneth Bowman (Ginger), daughter Karen Bowman Morris Logan (Daryle), grandchildren Ashley Elizabeth Bowman, Gary (Trey) Leslie Morris, Ashleigh Nicole Logan Nickol (Tyler), Amber Suzanne Bowman Gradous (Josh), Cameron Ryan Logan, and great grandchildren Jackson Nickol and Faylynn Proctor, sister, Linda Gail Accerbi, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend, Dorothy Chancey.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 7th, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Rd, Martinez, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Blythe Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
