in the comfort of her home in National Hills Neighborhood Augusta, GA where her neighbors
grew to be like family to her.
Audrey lived her life to the complete fullest and accomplished many achievements in her
lifetime, some of which include earning her Bachelor of Science in Elementary education at the
State University of New York Teachers College at Cortland on June 14, 1953; a Master of Arts
degree from New Mexico State University on June 2, 1962; and a Specialist in Education
Degree from West GA College on August 13, 1978.
Audrey was born and raised in Yonkers, NY. She was a woman with great spunk and full of
personality. She had a love for all animals, also a love for her freedom and country.
Traveling the world was something she enjoyed doing every chance she got and obtained
her pilot's license.
Mrs. Audrey enjoyed being the life of the party and joined quite a few associations over time
making dear friends. She was a member of the Augusta Women’s Bowling Association
and was inducted into the AWBA Hall of Fame on May 24, 1997; member of the American
Legion Post 205; an active member of the La Societe de Femmes where she held the
title of Nationale Presidente in 2004 also holding many other officer position prior; and a member of
The Eastern Star Chapter 227 in Bronx, New York.
Along with traveling, Audrey prided education. She was a school teacher for 50 years where she
nurtured and made an impact on the lives of thousands of children before she retired from
C.T. Walker Traditonal Magnet School in 2003.
She married the love of her life, Jacques O’Keefe, on December 28,1957 at St. John's Episcopal
Church in Yonkers, New York. They remained together until his passing on December 26,1990. Although the two never had any children of their own, they leave behind their loving godson Michael Lanum, his wife Debi, and their son Casey (Giovanna). Mrs. Audrey is preceded in death by her late husband, Jacques, her parents John and Adele Specht, her inlaws John and Maxine O’Keefe, her grandparents, Uncle Gustav Egloff (famous American chemist), Aunt Clara Mellor, and her beloved dog Jon Pierre. Along with her Godchildren, she leaves behind her dear friend and caregiver Christie Williams (Richard) who has loved and cared for Audrey for many years along with three other loving caregivers: Britney Jacobs (Bobby), Debi Jacobs (Nick), and Ashley Warthen. At the end of her life, Mrs. Audrey was provided with phenomenal care from Promedica and her Hospice nurse, Tina Matteo.
Funeral services for Mrs. Audrey will be held at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA. Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 4:00pm, Tuesday, April 25 at the funeral home. A funeral will be held at 4:00pm, following the visitation in the funeral home chapel. Friends invited. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
