Victor Joseph Cortez Jr

He was the son of the late Victor Sr. and Olympia Cortez. Beloved husband of 73 years to Bernadette Ragusa Cortez. Loving father of Sharon Hymel (Audie) and Karen McDuff (Kenny). Granddaddy of Courtney Hymel (fiance’ Matt Gaudet) and Kandice Hanks (Dustin). Great granddaddy of Preston Hanks. Brother of Leroy (Carmen) and Murphy (Ellie) Cortez and the late Malcolm, Manuel and Floyd Cortez and Elsie Calegan.

Victor was a Veteran of World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a founding member of the Banner Fraternity and was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Parish and served as an usher for many years. He was the owner of Fashion Cleaners and a Jefferson Parish School Bus Driver.

The family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers, his niece, Carol Linda & Peaches. Peaches, We couldn’t have gotten through the last week without your 24/7 care. We will forever be grateful to you both. Thanks also to Heart of Hospice for their excellent care, concern and support especially Linda, Valerie and Lanika.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, September 11, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church, 4401 Seventh St. Marrero, LA from 830 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with burial following at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery in Westwego.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601 in Victor’s memory.
