Veronica Ann Basse DuPont, born February 9th, 1954, passed away peacefully at her home with her family surrounding her on Sunday, July 11th, 2021. She is a lifelong resident of Lafitte, Louisiana, born to Rosemary Zacharis Basse and Alfred Victor (Joe) Basse Sr. Veronica is survived by her husband of 48 years, Danny DuPont, Sr. Mother of Danny M. DuPont, Jr. (Pepper) of Marrero, Monica D. Gisclair (Kip) of Barataria, and Sally DuPont of Lafitte. Grandmother of Marissa B. McGrew (Sam), Dawn A. DuPont, and Dylan, Abbie, and Shelby Gisclair. Veronica is survived by one great grandchild, Samuel Jay McGrew III, who she called "My Chunky Baby". Sister of Pamela M. Basse of Barataria and Alfred Basse Jr. (Pamela) of Marrero. She is survived by her two nieces Jamie Gaudet (Leslie) and Traci Percle, as well as two great nieces and two great nephews. Veronica is also survived by her Godmother, Delta Ronquille of Lafitte. She is also survived by her extended family from the Lafitte-Barataria-Crown Point Fire Station.
Veronica is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Rosemary Basse, her parents in law John and Flora DuPont, and her Godfather John Despaux.
Veronica spent her life saving others. She taught CPR for the American Red Cross for 38 years. Her passion was working with, as well as, being a Lieutenant, a Supply Officer, and Corresponding Secretary on the Board of Director's for the LBCP Fire Department for 43 years.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the members of the LBCP Fire Department, Barataria Baptist Churchs' members, her hospice nurse, Melinda Harlow, as well as her nurses' aide, Val Williams.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00PM on Thursday, July 15th, 2021 at Barataria Baptist Church, 2596 Jean Lafitte Boulevard in Lafitte, Louisiana. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jeff Smith. A visitation will be held from 9:00AM until the service time. Interment will follow with full Fireman's Honors at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana.
