Nelson, Peter Brown, Jr. the son of the late Nelson Peter Brown Sr. and Ida Rita Williams, transitioned peacefully on March 16, 2022 in his home six months shy of his 100th birthday. Nelson was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife Julia Marie Verret, two sons, his eldest Father Kenneth James Brown and 3rd eldest Fred Paul Brown, 6 siblings Alva, Anna, Joseph, Gloria, Pearl and Calvin. He leaves behind 5 children, Rudolph, Glenn, Denise, Albert and Julie Brown to cherish memories. He is survived by 10 grandchildren Terrence, Lauren, Christian, Jade, Randy, Travis, Glentrian, Jarrod, Jeanitra and Henry; 6 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He also leaves behind one sibling, David Brown of Breaux Bridge, LA. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Nelson was born and raised in Violet, LA until he served his country in WW11. He was a successful businessman in his early years and owned a business with 2 of his brothers and owned a fencing business. Mr. Brown, as many called him was an original member of the Poor Boys Social and Pleasure Club and remained so until the charter was sold. He continued to be a faithful supporter and assistant of the club’s new ownership. Mr. Brown converted to Catholicism as an adult and was a member of St. David Catholic Church and later became a devoted member of St. Leo/St. Raymond Church.
Friends and family are welcome to attend services on Friday, March 25, 2022 at St. Raymond/St. Leo the Great Catholic Church at 2916 Paris Avenue, New Orleans, La. adhering to COVID guidelines. The Rev. Stanley Ihuoma, S.S.J. will be officiating. There will be a viewing from 9:00 am – 10:00 am with a mass of Christian Burial followed by internment at St. Louis Cemetery No 3. Westside Leitz Eagan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
