John Alden Bergeron, Sr., entered peacefully into eternal rest at the age of 89 on June 11, 2017, Trinity Sunday. John was the beloved husband of Bess D’Gerolamo Bergeron for 67 years. He was the son of late Cyrus Bergeron, Sr., and Dora Bergeron, and the father of Donna Tassin (Kevin), John A. Bergeron, Jr. (Patricia), Terryl Bergeron (Jill) and the late Lori Sue Bergeron Grefer (Archie). He was the loving grandfather of Shannon Sulfsted (Jon), Sean Bergeron (Kristin), Ryan and Ashley Tassin, Heidi Bergeron Gross (Christopher), Monica Bergeron, Loren Fox (Timothy), Victoria Grefer, and Erin Mathes (Patrick). He was the proud great-grandfather of Ethan and Ellie Fox, Avaya Small, Slade and Knox Alden Bergeron, Carson and Cara Sulfsted, and Lusa Gabriella Gross. He was the brother of Joyce Julia (Chuck) and the late Kerner Bergeron (Shirley), Dolores Lassus, Anita Jambon, Dora Trahan, Lewellen Bergeron, Elmo Bergeron and Cyrus Bergeron, Jr. He was the beloved brother-in-law of Frankie D’Gerolamo (Toni), Angie Campagnaro Perrone, and the late Mary Alice Mazzeo. John was born in Westwego, Louisiana, and resided in Harvey for 44 years. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and a founding parishioner of St. Martha Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and a Eucharistic Minister. He was a recipient of the Archdiocese of New Orleans Order of St. Louis IX Medallion with his wife for their dedication and service to the Church. John was a retired office manager from Hunt Shipyard and Geosource, Inc. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3091, American Legion Post 222, Banter Fraternity, and the “Dew Busters.” The Bergeron family wishes to express sincere gratitude to his loving caretakers who offered tremendous support during his illness. Special thanks to Kim, Glendoria, Dawn, Julia, Jada, and the staff of Wynhoven and Canon Hospice facilities. Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2555 Apollo Avenue in Harvey, LA, on Friday, June 16, 2017. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with Mass to follow. Internment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery on Whitney Avenue in Gretna, LA. Masses appreciated in lieu of flowers.
