Armand "A.J." Joseph Griffin Jr. of Westwego, Louisiana went into Eternal rest on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the age of 89. A.J. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Ormand Griffin, Sr. and Norine LeBlanc Griffin. He was married to Azora "Butch" Griffin for 68 loving years before her passing in 2021. Together they had three sons, Michael Griffin, Sr. (Darsey), Paul Griffin, Sr. (Maria), and Brent Griffin (Tiffany). Grandfather of Paul Griffin, Jr. (Courtney), Michael Griffin II, Nicholas Griffin (Shelby), Tristan Ekinia, Kassidy Ekinia, Aubree Griffin; and great grandfather of River Griffin, Sophie Griffin, and Mia Grace Griffin. Brother of Mary Lee Comeaux (Warren) and James "Jimmy" Griffin. A.J. was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Carmen "MiMi" Blasini Griffin.
A.J. was a proud 1952 graduate of Westwego High School. After high school, he joined the military where he became a proud Marine. He wore his hat proudly, and always said "Once A Marine, Always A Marine". He was one of the founding fathers of PARD Playground where he was elected to the Hall of Fame. He was also inducted to the GNO Senior Athletic Hall of Fame.
A.J. loved his family, his old cars, and playing basketball. A.J. could build anything from a toy boat for the grandkids to the family home in Barataria. He was a jack of all trades and would never turn down a project, he had the ability to see the finished project in his mind before it was started.
A.J.'s family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses from Heart of Hospice, Aleida Pereira, and Jasmina Navas for their care and compassion during his time of need. The family would also like to thank Father Steve Ryan for being there for them, both emotionally and religiously throughout the past years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00PM on Wednesday, June 7th, 2023 in the chapel of Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana.
