Kennith Laurie Mitchell entered into the arms of Jesus at noon on Wednesday, November 1, 2012 at Lighthouse Hospice. He was 63 years old. Family and friends are welcome to come to visitation and viewing between 1:00 and 1:45 at First Baptist Church in Kosse, Texas after which the casket will be not be reopened. Services will begin at 2:00 at the church with Pastor John Free officiating. A graveside service will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery.
Kenny was born on March 6, 1949 in Port Arthur, Texas 3 minutes before his twin, Keith, to Louise and J.L. Mitchell. He graduated from Dumas High School in Dumas, Texas. He attended Lamar University in Beaumont, served as a Liberty police officer and also served in the U.S. Air Force reserve.
Kenny retired from Exxon in Baytown, Texas in 1997. He was a member and usher at Hill Country Bible Church in Austin, Texas, and he was active in the singles class. He did volunteer work at the SOMA homeless ministry. Kennith was busy about his Father’s work continuously spreading the love of Christ through his gifts of preaching, singing, guitar, song writing and prayer. Wherever Kenny went, he ministered to and prayed for the lonely, needy, sick, and broken-hearted. His love for God was demonstrated constantly in his love for people. He will be greatly missed by so many.
Kenny loved all his family and is survived by his beloved son Beau Mitchell of Austin, brother Keith Mitchell and Keith’s wife Betty Lou of Round Rock, sister Cindy Reed and her husband Wesley of Lubbock; nieces and nephews: Mr. and Mrs. Brent Mitchell of Round Rock, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Maples of Canyon, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Reed of Cedar Park, and Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Nanny of Lubbock; Great nieces and nephews: Jacob and Marina Mitchell of Round Rock, Krissy and Lincoln Maples of Canyon, Molly and Matthew Nanny of Lubbock.
He is also survived by aunts and uncles Mary Nell Sims of Pflugerville, Lucille Amick of Tampa, Florida, Raymond and Shirley George, Larry George of Bay City, Sally Hall of Kosse and many very special cousins.
