Jim was born November 2nd, 1946, in Ft. Worth, Texas to the parents of Orville & Jackie Lyons. As a child he was baptized and confirmed as a member of Marlin First Baptist Church.
He attended school in Marlin and graduated from Marlin High School in 1966. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966 where he was listed as an active Boatswain Mate 1st Class until his honorable discharged in 1971. When he returned home, he joined the family business Lyons Flower Shop & Pest Control with his father. After selling Lyons Pest Control, he went on to be deputized as a Sherriff Deputy in 1985 with the Falls County Sheriff’s office in Marlin, Tx. After serving in this capacity, he decided to go on an adventure and bought his first ambulance in January of 1988, where he then established Falls County EMS of Marlin, TX. Jim led Falls County EMS over the next 25 years and served Falls County tirelessly with contracts with Falls County, The Veteran’s Hospital of Marlin, Waco and Temple and TDJC Prisons. Over those 25 years, there was not a wreck or situation in Falls County you would not see his presence at. He received his EMT-I certificate in 1988 and kept it current which allowed him to continue to cover Marlin High School Football games on Thursday & Friday nights. In his retirement days you would catch him on his lawnmower, making sure all the Dairy Queens of Central Texas were mowed and in tip top shape.
As a lifetime resident of Marlin, Texas Jim served many rolls with many organizations including past Director and President of the Marlin Jaycee chapter, Duck’s Unlimited and the Marlin Bass Club. He held the title of President of the Texas Ambulance Association and an active board member for over 16 years. He became a Charter member of the Marlin Volunteer Fire Department in 1973 and would later become the President of the Volunteer Firefighter Association. He held the title of Chief of the Marlin Volunteer Fire Department and many other roles within the department for over 25 years. Jim tirelessly dedicated his lifetime career to Falls County as that was his true purpose on this earth.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Orville Lyons and mother Cleva Jack (Jackie) Lyons Greger.
He is survived by his son, James Lyons of Waco, daughters, Tracy Dimerson and husband Robert and Ashtyn Lyons of Marlin; Jim was also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister Jan Johnson and husband Rodney of Mooreville, Tx, a brother Paul Lyons and wife, Sandra of Marlin, Tx along with many nieces and nephews. Along the way Jim found a best friend Etta Kearney-Anderson better known as Nana who he held close to his heart till his passing.
Active Pallbearers will be Kylor Aguilar, Jamison Berryhill, Rob Douglas, Derrick Drews, Grant Snider and Rhett Snider.
Honorary Pallbearers will be James Adams, Justin Adcock, John Anastasio, Cory Aguilar, Jamie Berryhill, Mike Bethke, Steve Bethke, Robert Dimerson Jr, Tanner Kloven, Kevin Krumnow, Paul Lyons, Brian Messman, Jimmy Mitchell and Josh Snider.
Presiding the service will be Jamie Berryhill.
