Gordon was born on May 16th, 1932 to Edward Guy and Hattie Alma Garrett in Marlin, Texas.
Gordon was a multi-generation rancher, who built his life and cattle operation in Stranger, Texas. His passion for the area and ranching grew with each passing year. His greatest pride and fond memories take place in the Big Creek bottom. Gordon passed on his love of ranching to his children/grandchildren, who have continued to carry on the family tradition and legacy today.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Alma, siblings Guy, Nell, Ralph. Mother of their children, Irene Rush Garrett, wife MaryAnn Garrett, and great-grandson Bryce Fikes.
He is survived by his children, son David Garrett and wife Cindy, daughter Gayle Garrett, daughter Lynne and husband David Greger, son Lea Garrett and wife Jamie.
His stepchildren, Barbara Deaton and her husband Michael, Lou Ann Doggett and her husband, James, and Warren Sheilds.
His grandchildren, Mandy and her husband, James Robison, Krystal and her husband, Nick Manier, Lance and his wife, Jessica Garrett, Nycole and her husband, Brad Muchow, Kaysee and her husband, Joe De Fratus, Jaimye and her husband, Brian Plemons, Shaun Allen, Alicia and her husband, Ryan Fikes, Meghan Greger, Seth and his wife, Courtney Greger, Rockcey and her husband, Garrett Crane, Casey and Haley Garrett, Claire and her husband, Anthony Nese, Grady and Wyndie Shields; and herd of 27 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, October 15th at 3:00 pm at the Stranger Community Church with Reverend William Wright of Marlin Christian Church officiating. Meal will be provided after the service at Stranger Baptist Church. A private service for family will be held at 2:00 pm at his residence with Pastor Lynn Kemp of the Common Grounds Cowboy church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for any donations to go to Stranger Cemetery and Community Church.
