Funeral Service will be Wednesday, May 29th, at 2PM at St. John Episcopal Church in Marlin,
Texas. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Wilson was born in Marlin, Texas on July 30, 1928, a sixth generation Texan and the son of
George Buford (Jummy) and Mary Elizabeth Curry Wilson. He lived in Thornton, Texas until the
age of ten when he moved to Marlin with his parents.
Mr. Wilson was a 1945 graduate of Marlin High School. That same year he began school at the
University of Texas and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration.
While in college, he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Upon graduation he was employed by a Houston, Texas bank. He later returned to Marlin and
became associated with his father in Wilson Bros Co., the family apparel business which was
founded in 1894. At the outbreak of the Korean War, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After four
years of service, he was released from active duty as a first lieutenant and returned home to
Marlin.
In 1958, he moved to Hearne, Texas where he lived for eight years managing the Wilson
Brothers Store. He remained in the retail business until 1981 when the stores closed. A short
time later he became a licensed real estate broker and practiced until retirement in 1994.
In 1963, he married Miss Ruth Ann Parrish of Marlin. George and Ruth Ann had two children,
Ann Hawthorne Lloyd, married to Michael C. Lloyd, and George Curry Wilson. Mr. and Mrs.
Wilson have three grandchildren, Sarah and Claire Lloyd, and George Calan Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was a longtime communicant of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Marlin, Texas where
he served as high senior warden and vestryman on a number of occasions. He was a Paul
Harris fellow of Rotary International and a past president of the Rotary Club of Marlin. He also
served as the president of the Marlin Jaycees, The United Way of Marlin, St. John’s school
board, Samaritan House, Marlin Public Library Association, Falls County Historical Commission
and Falls County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1.
