19, 2024 at home surrounded by her family. Sellen was born April 12, 1949 in Van Horn, Texas
to Jack McCutchen and Catherine Meeks. She graduated high school in 1969 from Marfa High
School in Marfa, Texas where she grew up as a child. Sellen earned her beauticians license in
1969. She later moved to Brooks, Alberta, Canada where her only biological child Ronnie
Jackson was born in 1973. When Ronnie was just 18 months old she moved back to Texas and
later settled in Roswell, New Mexico where she worked for Chaves County Road and Bridge
Department for many years and rode many trail rides with the Chaves County Sheriff's Posse.
While in Roswell, she eventually met the love of her life Harold Grote. In October of 1987 she
moved to Riesel, Texas and was married to Harold on November 30,1987 and gained an
amazing bonus daughter Carol Grote Weaver.
Sellen had many adventures in life and loved to travel. She loved cooking, photography, sewing,
painting, puzzles and most importantly (at least to her) rock collecting. She won numerous
awards at county and city fairs for her entries in a variety of categories. In 1998, Harold and
Sellen purchased land in Menard, Texas where Sellen became an avid deer hunter. Sellen ran a
pawn shop in Waco, Texas for many years before working at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin,
Texas and eventually retired in 2012. Once retired, life became even more hectic as she was
the farm chauffeur and parts runner for both Harold and Ronnie. She loved the farm life and all
that it entailed. She could operate every piece of equipment owned and probably more. Sellen
was a member of Perry United Methodist Church where she served on multiple committees over
her many years as a member.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband and caretaker, Harold Grote of Riesel,
Texas; son, Ronnie Jackson and wife Lisa of Riesel, Texas; daughter, Carol Weaver of Waco,
Texas; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She also leaves behind siblings brother, Randall McCutchen and wife Rainell of Deming, New
Mexico; sister, Kaye Perry and husband Dana of Lake Tahoe, Nevada; sister, Sandy Mahoney
and husband Dave of Pleasonton, California; sister, Becky McCutchen of Levelland, Texas; and
sister, Pam Whatley and husband Mark of Van Horn, Texas as well as numerous nieces and
nephews.
Sellen was preceded in death by her parents, Jack McCutchen and Catherine Meeks,
son-in-law Billy Joe Weaver and nephew RB McCutchen.
