Herbert G. Best, 84 of Markle passed away at 2:55am on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Markle Healthcare. Herb was a 1947 graduate of East Union High School in Wells County. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a sergeant and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska from 1947 – 1950. He had worked for 34 years at the Pretzel Company (Keebler Company) in Bluffton, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton. He enjoyed playing golf and recorded four hole-in-one’s at Frazanda Golf Course. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques. Herb was an avid IU, Colts, Nascar, golf and sports fan.
He was born on May 27, 1929 in Huntington County, a son of Jesse Dale and Viola Mae (Wilson) Best.
He was united in marriage to Lou Ann Girvin in November of 1950 in Markle.
Survivors include his wife: Lou Ann Best of Markle; three sons: Fredrick J. (Elaine) Best of Roanoke; Frank S. (Anna) Best of Fort Wayne; Lorin G. (Stacy) Best of Markle; a brother: Charles E. Best of Ossian; a half-brother: Bill Blaising of Roanoke; a half-sister: Cathryn Nichols of North Webster; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a half-brother: Jim Blaising and his parents.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel, 415 N. Lee Street, Markle, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 11:00am at the Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel with Greg Comp officiating.
Interment will take place at the Markle Cemetery at a later date.
