Harold was born April 30, 1921, in Hendersonville to William Virgil and Montrey Constance McCurry and later resided in McDowell County. Upon leaving school, Harold set off on his life adventures across the United States and joined the US Army in Washington State. He bravely served his country for 21 years during WWII and Korea, impacting the lives of many along the way and received numerous military commendations. After retiring from the military, Harold pursued a career as a barber, then later as a Quality Control Manager at Collins & Aikman in Old Fort. During this time he also kept his farm, his garden, his herd of cattle, and focused on raising his children. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, wood working, and nature.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, many of his brothers and sisters; one daughter, Peggy Ann McCurry; and one son, Harold Dean McCurry
Harold is survived by his wife of many years, Paula Ehrhardt McCurry, of the home; one sister, Faye Perkins of Bandera, Texas; his children, Harold Richard McCurry, Gerlinde McCurry, Libby Bloomfield and her husband, Rick, Virgil Paul McCurry and his wife, Pamela, Charles Ray McCurry, and Angela Milliken and her husband, Frankie; as well as many grandchildren and great- grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hospice of Rutherford & McDowell Counties for their kindness and care throughout his battle with Parkinson’s.
The family will receive friends at Kirksey funeral home on Saturday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Montford Cove Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, September 1st, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Chris Osborne and Reverend Cy Miller officiating.
