Lavonne was born June 25, 1936 in Buncombe County, NC to the late Earnest Wilson and Ruby Padgett Wilson. She worked in the Shipping/Receiving office at Collins & Aikman until her retirement, at the age of 70.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tommie J. English and her brother, Dan Wilson.
Lavonne was dedicated to her family, always ready to offer guidance and advice, or “a lecture”, as some of the family would affectionately call it. She had a beautiful singing voice, and was a talented writer of songs and poetry, even having the accomplishment of having one of her songs recorded and distributed locally in the 1970s. She was also part of the local country and western group J. L. and the Country Squire, (she was the “L”). The band performed locally in the 1970s/80s, many times at events to raise money to help others in need.
Those left behind to cherish Lavonne’s memory are two children, Walter Douglas English (Dora) and Suzanne English Moore (Fred); one brother, Earl Padgett (Willie); seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Those wishing to make a donation in Lavonne’s memory are asked to consider Care Partners Hospice & Palliative Care McDowell, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
