A native of McDowell County, Linda was born to the late John Sherman Haney and Minnie Bradley.
Linda loved sports. She was an avid bowler and a fan of basketball, which she played and coached. She cherished her church family at First Baptist Church of Old Fort, where she was a member. She will also be remembered as a Sunday school teacher in several other churches. She enjoyed working at BuyWay auction in Marion, and she truly loved her auction family. A loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Linda was well respected by all who had the privilege to know her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Paul A. Brooks, who passed away in 2019, and seven siblings.
She is survived by three sons, John Brooks and wife April, Paul Brooks, Jr. and wife Penny, and Tony Brooks and wife Pam; one daughter, Monica Effler and significant other Duane Moore; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by a sister, Sadie Woody, a number of nieces and nephews, and extended family.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Old Fort when the coronavirus restrictions have been lifted.
