She was born October 30, 1950 in McDowell County, NC to the late Henry Beard and Minerva Keaton Beard. Kate worked as a forklift operator at Collins & Aikman for 20 years, until her retirement. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Kate was a “people person.” She never met a stranger and always left a lasting impression! She loved playing B.I.N.G.O., and more than anything, she loved her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by two infant daughters, Tonda and Angela; one sister, Drucilla Beard Hardy; and two brothers, Lewis Forney and Mack Thompson.
Left behind to cherish Kate’s memory are one niece/daughter, Demethria Hardy of Marion, NC; one Godchild, Akievia Twitty of Marion, NC; three sisters, Beverly B. Carson of Marion, NC, Jimmie B. Wilkins and husband, James of Lenoir, NC and Vida B. Blocker of Charlotte, NC; and a host of cousins and three generations of nieces and nephews and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Michael S. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
