John Kirby Davis Jr.

John Kirby Davis, Jr., age 72, of Marion, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville, NC.

He was born on July 12, 1944, in McDowell County, NC, to the late John Kirby Davis, Sr. and Evelyn Duncan Davis Randolph.

Mr. Davis was a Christian man who served his community as a paramedic for McDowell County for many years. In his early career, he was an ambulance driver for Westmoreland Ambulance Service. Mr. Davis also loved being outdoors. He enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting. He was also a great cook and enjoyed barbequing. One of the most beloved things he enjoyed was organizing the annual Christmas Toy Drive for children. He was a good man and was known for always willing to help others.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two daughters, Nicole Davis and Vicki Holland; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Bruner.

Surviving Mr. Davis are his wife of 30 years, Katherine Warden Davis of the home; a brother, Donald (Camie) Randolph of Marion; two sisters, Joyce Bruner, of Taylors, SC and Debbie (Roger) Lane of Morganton, NC; a step-son, Ryan (Lindy) Mathis, of Hillsborough, NC ; and two grandsons, Jacob Mathis of Hillsborough, NC and Jonathon Warren of Rutherfordton, NC.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM with Chaplain Richard Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
