A Life Well Lived.
William ‘Bill’ Terry Deaton, born March 3, 1937 in Smyrna, Georgia, left an indelible mark on the world during his remarkable journey, which peacefully ended on May 6, 2024.
Early Years and Education.
Bill’s love for engineering blossomed during his studies at Georgia Tech University. His sharp mind led him to a fulfilling career as an aeronautical engineer at Lockheed Martin, where he dedicated an impressive 45 years of service.
A Global Explorer.
Bill’s wanderlust knew no bounds. In 1970, he embarked on his first international assignment, igniting a lifelong love for travel. From Indonesia to Iran, Egypt to Taiwan and countless adventures in between, he immersed himself in diverse cultures.
Devoted Husband and Father.
At home, Bill was a pillar of strength and compassion. His wife stood by his side through thick and thin, sharing 52 years of sunsets. Bill was father to four loving daughters.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sherry Deaton; loving daughters, Tammy Deaton Wingfield, Susan Horn, Jennifer Z. Deaton, and husband, Yousif Basil, Tala Deaton, and fiancé, Stefano Schwarz; grandchildren Allison Wingfield Betts, and husband, Robert Betts, Ryan Horn MD, and wife, Melissa Horn, Jaia and Amara Tun, Kemal and Alia Basil; as well as sisters, Jean and Linda; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1 PM in the chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Judd Henley officiating. Interment will follow in Sandy Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 11 AM until 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
