Rudye Clint Woodruff, of Marietta, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024. Rudye was born on November 12, 1937 in Ellison Ridge, Mississippi to Vida and Rudolph Woodruff. He was a graduate of Ellison Ridge High School, East Central Junior College and Mississippi State University, receiving his Masters of Education and Specialist degree. Rudye moved to Marietta in 1959 to pursue his lifelong dream of teaching and coaching. His education career took him from East Side Elementary to Sprayberry High School, during which time he coached basketball and golf. After two years at Sprayberry, he was asked by the new principal of JJ Daniell Middle School if he would assist him in opening the new school in the capacity of heading up the Physical Education Department with duties of coaching basketball and football. After serving in this area, he was asked to be the Assistant Principal. In 1967, he moved to Marietta City Schools to become Principal of Park Street Elementary. He dutifully served here until 1974.
Following his educational career, he owned and operated Custom Design Baths for 31 years. At Custom Design Baths, he worked closely with many of the most prominent builders in the Metro Atlanta area, forging friendships and connections that lasted until his death. In his free time, Rudye enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing with friends at Marietta Country Club.
Rudye is survived by his wife Dorothy of 48 years and four children, Stace Huff (Vince), Brittany Maddox (Matt), Natalie Woodruff-Wilhelm (Debra), and Renae Baylard (Lloyd). He also had seven grandchildren; Alec Huff, Woodson, Matilda, and Paxton Maddox, Lucas and Gia Woodruff-Wilhelm, and Anna Wombles, one great-grandchild, Ava Jane Owens. He is also survived by his nephew, Gregg Rogers, and niece, Gina Duty, of Louisville, Mississippi and preceded in death by his sister Jimmie Irene Rogers.
