It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Michael Allen Thompson on the morning of Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Mr. Michael Allen Thompson, 72, joined his Lord and Savior in heaven. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. A native of Marietta, Georgia, Mike attended Fair Oaks Elementary School, Osborne Junior High School, J.J. Daniels Junior High School and Graduated from Sprayberry High School, Class of 1970. Mike was the Band’s Drum Major for Sprayberry HS class of 1970.
Following High School, Mike volunteered for duty in the Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He was assigned for duty in a very critical intelligence field monitoring Russian communication activity, stationed at RAF Chicksands, near Shefford, England. While on this assignment, Mike met and married the love of his life Pamala Gardner of Jamestown, North Dakota. They were married in February 1975 and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this next February. Mike and Pam were honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1976 and returned to Marietta, Georgia to pursue College education at Southern Polytechnic State University.
Mike was ahead of his time and started his own computer business. He later sold his business and worked for various Information System companies before retiring. Mike enjoyed many hobbies and was an excellent carpenter with his own wood shop and enjoyed working on various vehicle’s - especially vintage Honda 1983 V65 Motorcycles with an extensive collection. Mike was a talented electrician – there was nothing he could not fix.
Mike enjoyed gardening, fishing and attending science fiction conventions and was able to meet one of his heroes, Stan Lee, with his daughter Ally. Mike loved to travel and was fortunate to see much of world during his life including returning to the UK to see Kim and her family at his former US AF Base and traveling to Israel with his Life Group. Mike was an active member of Roswell Street Baptist Church. It was here as a young man that he accepted Christ as his Savior.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 49 years, Pamala Thompson, his daughters, Ally (Erik) Storla, and grandson Griffin and granddaughter Trillian of Powder Springs, GA. Kim (Howard) Hacker, granddaughters Savannah and Isabelle of Marietta, GA. His sister, Susan (Mike) Hadaway, of Kennesaw, GA, brother, Faron (Beth) Thompson, Bonaire, GA, Melanie (Keith) Franklin, of Acworth, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to Roswell Street Baptist Church, The Gideons or a charity of your choice.
