Ms. Melissa Barrett, age 31 of Atlanta, GA passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012. Melissa was a wonderful daughter and a treasured friend who was instantly beloved by those who met her. After graduating from UGA with a double major in sociology and psychology, Melissa had a successful career at North Highland Consulting in their HR Department. Melissa was a very involved volunteer for various animal groups and especially loved dogs. She loved living inside the perimeter of Atlanta and enjoyed attending outdoor festivals. She was very artistic and enjoyed painting, drawing, and pottery. Melissa loved being an aunt to her niece and nephew and loved them as her own. “Aunt Sissy” will be terribly missed. Melissa was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Kenneth Johnson and paternal grandfather, Charles Barrett. She is survived by her parents, Steve and Teresa(Johnson) Barrett; sister and brother-in-law, Mandy Barrett and Matthew Berrell; maternal grandmother, Jean Johnson; paternal grandmother Rita Barrett; niece and nephew, Adelyn and Charles Berrell; and her dogs, Mister and Maybey. A celebration of Melissa’s life service will be held Thursday, May 17th at 11 am in the chapel at H.M.Patterson & Son, Canton Hill. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to P.A.W.S.
