Born July 9, 1937 in Agra, Kansas, Mary was the 6th of 9 children of Ed and Faye Gilliland. Mary moved to Pasadena, Texas in 1957 where she met US Army Lieutenant Jack Warren Anderson, Jr. They were married December 14, 1958 and embarked on an amazing journey together. As part of being a military wife, Mary moved to many different duty stations across the United States and the world. In 1973, Jack retired from the military and Mary called Dunwoody, Georgia home.
Mary was very active in her son’s lives. She served as a Den mother for the Cub Scout troops and shared her love of the outdoors and physical activities with her sons (ALTA tennis, waterskiing, camping, skeet shooting). Mary had a strong faith and shared it with everyone. She served on multiple Cursillo and Tres Dias weekends, actively taught in Bible Study Fellowship and would pray for anyone at a moment’s notice.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Jack (1934-2014) and middle son, James (1961-2019). Her third son, Edwin (1966-?) is missing, presumed deceased. Mary is survived by her eldest son, John (Angela), 9 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
The family will have a private graveside service on December 17th and will schedule a Celebration of Life service for Mary Ann Anderson in the first two weeks of January 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wells of Life Inc. [http://www.wellsoflife.org/], a charity focused on providing clean water in Uganda.
