Lionel Herbert Stutz

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Lionel Herbert Stutz on Friday, July 23rd, 2021. With his first spouse, Marilyn Rogers Wax, he was the beloved father and father-in-law of Jeffrey and Shirley Stutz, Brian and Dean Stutz, Ellen and Steven Weidner, Jonathan and Stacie Stutz, grandfather of Eli (Tziona), Adam, and Eric (Orli) Stutz, Sterling (Seán) and Blair Stutz, Katie (Tom) and Jaclyn (Aaron) Stutz, and Morgan Weidner, and great-grandfather of eight. Lionel was the loving partner of Carolyn Prudhomme.

He is remembered as a business executive and Royal Canadian Air Force veteran with life-long interests in automobiles and fitness. Lionel was born in Toronto, Canada on May 26, 1924, the second son of Benjamin and Kathleen Stutz. He enlisted in the RCAF and served as an aircraft mechanic during World War II. With his father and brother Joseph, he was a partner in Sun Crest Company of Canada, a manufacturer of soft drinks. In 1965, the family relocated to Atlanta and he became President of the National NuGrape Company.

Lionel played golf and tennis at the Standard Club of Atlanta and enjoyed many years of boating on Lake Lanier. He was a jogger long before it became popular. With his second spouse, Sue Nix, Lionel moved to Montreal, Quebec, where he was President of McLean’s Foods. They moved back to Georgia where Lionel owned and operated Jilly’s Ribs, a popular restaurant in Columbus. Lionel and Sue retired to Canton, Georgia, where he became an active community member. Lionel developed a special interest in late-model Cadillacs and had a well-equipped garage for repairs. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral Services and Entombment for Lionel, will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, July, 28th, 2021, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2000 Cobb Parkway SE, Marietta, Georgia, 30060. The family request that in in lieu of flowers, Memorials for Lionel, be made to either the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the Cobb County Animal Shelter.
