Born in Seattle, Mr. Foss grew up in East Cobb County and was a member of Joseph Wheeler High School’s Class of 1992, playing for the school’s nationally-ranked varsity baseball team and graduating third in his class. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree with distinction in Economics from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1996, and both a law degree and an MBA in Finance from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 2001.
He was admitted to the Georgia Bar Association in 2001. After working as an associate for a Marietta law firm and serving as corporate counsel for a financing company, Mr. Foss opened his own practice in 2008, specializing in corporate law, consumer law, real estate and intellectual property.
Those closest to Mr. Foss recalled his unique, sometimes bizarre sense of humor, and his impeccable memory of times past. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and never shied from a debate. He was an ingenious writer of both legal papers and amateur comedy. He took pride in watching his nephews grow up, and he helped one of his best friends take care of his beloved dog, Bear.
Mr. Foss was an avid fan of The Grateful Dead with an extensive collection of live bootlegs. His next Dead & Company show would have been June 8 in Atlanta. He was also a lover of Metallica, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and Sex Pistols.
Mr. Foss is preceded in death by his older brother, James M. Foss, who passed away in 2003. Mr. Foss often said his happiest memories were being at baseball games with his brother as a child back in Seattle. He would later become a fan of the Atlanta Braves and the North Carolina Tar Heels. Though college basketball was a passion, Mr. Foss said March Madness was never the same after the loss of James.
Survivors include his mother, Karen Foss; his father, Michael Foss, and his stepmother, Mary O'Sullivan; two nephews, Christian and Tyrus; his sister-in-law, Charlene Foss-Eggemann; and other extended family.
He is also survived by his close circle of friends, who he considered his family, too.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, March 23, at 7 p.m. at the home of Scott Alan Johnson, 373 Hilderbrand Drive, Sandy Springs, 30328.
A Funeral Mass will be held April 13th at noon followed by a reception in Parish Hall at Holy Family Catholic Church located at 3401 Lower Roswell Rd. Marietta, GA. 30068
